Bonnet rubbing

I there, I have just purchased a 67 MK 4 Healey Sprite. The front cooper can seems to be rubbing on the bonnet. I have tried to adjust the can and also replaced the rear rubbers under the bonnet without much luck. Is there an issue with the 1275 engine being a little taller then the previous engines??
regards

A '67 Sprite would have come from the factory with a 1275. Do your air cleaners have rounded corners or beveled corners? They changed styles to provide more clearance.

Wow, that's strange. The beveled cans are supposed to provide more clearance. Have you changed motor mounts?

No, I have only just purchased the car. I noticed the engine mounts are in pretty good condition but the car only has 58000 original miles and it has been in a shed for the last 35 years. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Would you know what the engine mount thickness should be??

Hi, my newly purchased 67 sprite is running 175/80/13 tyres with not much clearance on the rear guard. Original tyres apparently were 145’s. Is anyone running 155’s and how does that size handle?

I've run my Bugeye on 155's, I'm a fan. They should fit the '67 fine.

As to your motor mounts just looking at them tells you little it may be rubbing when you make a hard turn as was with my TR 4 would lock up the steering rod to the rack. Putting a light lift at the oil pan with a floor jack and block of wood as not to dent oil pan. The rubber is bonded to the metal mounting plate and age will separate and just float. Good luck with tires.

Not as yet Madflyer, I have replaced the rear bonnet rubbers and slightly adjusted the bonnet which has taken an annoying squeak out of it whilst driving which I’m happy about. For a temporary measure I stuck a soft rubber stopper under the bonnet only 5 mm thick so it doesn’t keep rubbing on the air cleaner which seems to be working until further investigation .
I did speak with a mechanic in Sydney who has heard this may have been an issue out of the factory, hence changing the design of the air cleaners. 🤷🏻‍♂️
