TR6 Vacuum Gauge Hookup

I want to try the vacuum gauge method of timing my car.... '73 TR6.
Where is the best place to hookup the vacuum gauge?
The charcoal canister is not used and is disconnected.
Any other tips on timing with a vacuum gauge are also appreciated. Thanks!

If you still have the banjo fitting on your intake manifold and if it's the 73 version, there should be 2 nipples...A big one for the Servo and a smaller one...originally for the ARV.....the smaller one is the one to use to connect the Vacuum gauge hose.

Thanks Ken. Going to look.

There is only one banjo fitting on the manifold. Is this the one?
Also the small rubber cap on the banjo fitting is dried out; is there a source for them?

Thanks for the links. Good info.

That's THE one and only banjo fitting as it should be for a 73 (and 74) with 2 nipples... and that cap on that small nipple must be TIGHT when you replace it or it will suck excessive air into the engine combustion chambers...
You can find emission plugs that fit at auto parts stores, usually on the rack for "Dorman's " universal type stuff

Thanks again.

Got the vacuum gauge on and it was reading about 16-17 inches Hg. Advanced the distributor and raised it to 20+ but I backed it down to about 19. Should I take it higher?

I wouldn't, Elliot, until you spend some time driving around at 18 to 19.
You don't want to over advance based solely on the higher manifold vacuum.

Thanks for the advice. I ordered the emission rubber plug... it will be here tomorrow. I'l put it on and then drive it for a while so see how it goes.
