I had a 1986 XJS V-12 Coupe in Metallic Grey.
 
Wife called ours "Warp", when you hit 2500 rpm it would take off like a rocket. Was an excellent touring car and track car. First car I made a run from St. Louis to Pensacola, Fla. in 10 hrs., including stops.
 
I was on the interstate going the speed limit (or maybe a bit over) and a Japanese tuner car, with an airplane wing on the trunk and a coffee can muffler, passed me, sneering as he did so. I punched it down, hit 110, still accelerating, as I passed him. He tried to catchup, but kept falling behind. Didn't realize 12 trumps 4.

Good friend of mine leased one several years ago. Enjoyed driving it but now he has a Maserati sedan. He's in his 70s but drives it like a teenager.
 
So, is that slow as an old goat or careless and uncontrolled like a teenager. I like the phrase in car ads, 'adult driven', I can say that, but does track, solo, rallye driven by an old person the same?
 
Here in my area, teenage drivers are a bad thing. I taught Teen Survival School for SCCA and BMWCCA and most kids were inexperienced because parents did not have time to take them out to learn. We were an advanced learning for handling their car. Parents would put them in new family car instead of the beater they gave the kid. So that was a no learn. Teenage driving is an example of parental mistakes.
 
I know that when I was a teen I did foolish things, but I had fun doing them.
Remember, you have to grow older but you do not have to grow up.

I rescued a 1994, 6.0 coupe quite a few years back.
Most of the problems were cosmetic but it eventually developed an ECM glitch.
Between trying to solve that and addressing the cosmetics, I dropped around $15K.
I had to let it go to an enthusiast who had deeper pockets for $1K.
At least I got to enjoy a truly rare exotic for a few years.
Even at it's worst, I got great comments every time I went out.

One of my friends has such a model. It's very beautiful. I enjoyed very much having a ride with this car. From my point of view, it's looking very classy and aristocratic.
 
Only car i regretted selling. Only because it sat so much all my replaced seais started oozing again.
 
Former BCF member (and neighbor) Judow, who passed away not long ago, had a XJS which she called “Onslow”.
