We were headed to Route 66

On our morning walk we acquired a new beach home.

This is a monster built and shipped over by a guy from Sweden. Campground expert (there's one in every campground) was running interference and talking diesel prices so never learned the whole story.

One of my fantasies for my retirement is to get something like the (smaller) examples here https://www.expedition-trucks.com/brokers/expedition-trucks-sale and explore the less traveled parts of the world.

I love the, "Beach Home"! Hope the rent wasn't to high! :highly_amused:. Neat photo! PJ

First stop in California. At info booth Lisa asked for campground with electric, I butted in with on beach we don't care. Gold Bluffs is 8 miles on bad gravel but we're here on the beach for a few days. A dozen sites, no RV's or trailers and endless beach. The drill on moving day is to try and find a new spot early in the day. We aren't the only ones with this idea. Ahhh

BTW the red buses still run in glacier. As I remember several years ago the front axle fell off one and Ford re manufactured the fleet. I've a good friend who lives in west glacier and travel there 2 or 3 times a year.

i love my new chair.

Richard,

Did you take the walk up Fern Canyon?Go to the Requa overlook (a little-
ways North of you)?
I'm hoping that you'll give me a call ahead of time,so we can meet up.

- Doug

Doug once we get through the herd of elk and if we don't encounter any bears they warn about on the food boxes we're going to walk the two miles to fern canyon up the beach. Not a Eurovan road I took 30 minutes to drive the 8 or 10 miles here. I'll call you now.

I winterized my Roadtrek the other day. The last night we spent in it was not all that comfortable. I think you may have gotten out of the north just in time.

The California Conservation Corp were working up the beach on invasive species. Apparently a volunteer program for two years it looked more like a sentence. Gone by 7 and back around that time at night. We never heard a peep from them. If that barrier is to hide from a tsunami I'm going to take my snorkel.

Yesterday was another peaceful morning on the beach. After a week there getting an oil change now in Eureka seems very strange. Groceries, haircut, hopefully say hi to Doug and we're outta here.

This is Doug speeding away after being good enough to meet in a grocery store lot while Lisa shopped (thanks to her I almost never shop.) We had a good visit, got the oil changed and quick check, skipped the haircut, drove thru the redwoods and now we're on 1 back on the beach.

We watched the sunset here

Later this guy appeared from nowhere and disappeared just as fast

What is weird was a couple nights earlier in an elk strutted through our campsite a few feet from us appearing and disappearing the same way. Pretty sure the coyote running along us by the side of the road today was the same guy.

That's it, must be too much sun or something, I'm seeing Elk Chief everywhere. Then today I'd been sitting right here for a couple hours reading when

a GIANT SNEAKER WAVE crashed in and got my bottom wet. We're headed east.

Catch up. We blasted from MacKereicher State Park through Sacramento for my 20 year say hi to cousin and on to Lake Tahoe.

Then on to Lamoille Canyon near Elko. Beautiful an no hunters that were everywhere with jeeps an quads. The last three nights we've been the only ones in campground.

Up 89 to Logan UT where Lisa went to school at Utah State. On the way I saw HIM again. This time he was coming down a 7% grade on a penny farthing disguised in knickers, English cap, backpack and frame pack. His feet were out to the sides freewheeling down the slope. Crazy. Almost went back to chase him down but pretty much we don't turn back and he probably would have just disappeared.
Logan Canyon to Bear Lake is very nice. Would be better driving a two tone Healey. Lisa set down her cocktail for a sunset dance at Bear Lake.

Richard,
You came through Logan and didn't stop to say hi? :sorrow:

and I assume the comment about a two-tone Healey in Logan Canyon is a reference to this video?

but you should also check this one out. (doesn't play on mobile devices)

Keith, yes I was thinking of you on the drive. We didn't stay in Logan but went straight from Nevada to Bear Lake. Next time. We try to avoid towns.
Yesturday went from Bear Lake to just in Nebraska. One day drive through Wyoming is probably up there with one day thru North Dakota for longest drive. The Eurovan isn't as cool as a split window but will cruise at 80 all day.
Last night camping free courtesy state of Nebraska, only ones there again. They get a bad rap so today they get a chance on the back roads.

Well, I'm glad you thought of me even if you didn't stop. Next time! I promise to have a cold beer waiting.

Driving through Wyoming is deadly boring, but it's usually possible see pronghorn antelope along the way. Did you see any?
