Don Rickles

Sad to hear of his passing. My dad told me he hired Rickles back in the early 50’s to entertain at a Christmas party for the organization he was a member of.
I also saw him a couple of times perform live.

I did meet him after a show in Vegas.
He was a very humble and pleasant man that I will never forget.
God speed!

Yep, they noted it several times in those 70s episodes, Jane Curtin and Dan Ackroyd in particular.
I thought that was Chevy Chase's shtick.

He may have done it as well, but I remember the other two doing it as well. Probably after the first season when Chase did it for the most part.
Jane sitting there saying "This just in, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead" after being handed a paper she was supposedly reading from.

So,I'm assuming he's still dead.

A good guy but let's not overlook the fact that his passing was 9 years ago (April 6th 2017).
I do feel like this entire thread could be a Don Rickles joke for this reason though more likely George Burns or Mark Twain - "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated"

Years ago I saw Rickles perform live. He worked nonstop for almost 2hrs. He was visibly sweating from performing.
At the end of the show some guy in the audience yells out:
“What do you do for a living?”
Rickles fired back instantaneously with:
“I get guys for your sister”

Maybe live in a club in say Las Vegas, but not on a TV show. I see a lot of stuff from as recent as the 90s that wouldn't get made the same today, say Jackie Gleason's honeymooners or his coming on stage during his variety show with a drink and smokes. Or how about of the traded conversation/insults in a show like Community from the 90s.

And I am Ok with that. I sometimes watch even Monty Python which I used to love (the movies are still great) but, the shows become cringeworthy in a hurry. I never really enjoy 'my wife is a battleaxe/ why I oughta/ your mamma is so ugly humour'
