I've used PayPal for a gazillion years with no problem. Over the last couple of years, I've had people ask me to pay them for things and services using Venmo, Zelle, ApplePay, Square, GooglePay, FacebookPay, and a few others.

Good grief - to use those systems, you have to "join" each system and give the system your bank info.

How are you guys handling this? So many systems, and vendors use whatever they want. Us buyers are stuck having to join multiple systems, opening us to more hacking possibilities.

yeesh

I use PayPal very infrequently. Most of the time I use Applepay. It's linked to my debit or credit card. I've found it to be safe and reliable.
Or, I just use my credit card.
As for the others you mentioned, I never use them since I don't think they are as secure (personal opinion).

Thanks Elliot. I agree about using the system(s) we trust. But if the vendor uses a different system, well ... "ay, there's the rub".

I do use paypal some but it does not have my bank account number, only a credit card.

Same as Bayless, Paypal has my credit card number that's all. Never had a problem with them, but earlier in the game I had a couple of unscrupulous sellers to deal with due to where the product was coming from. I don't buy anything now that comes from Asia! PJ

Using a single online system, or just directly charging to a credit card - that's the way to go. You're lucky if all your vendors accept your payment system.

The tree service which removed a massive split and fallen walnut tree from my backyard - only accepts Venmo. I don't use Venmo.

Vendors/stores/services using different online systems - that's the problem.

I primarily use PayPal, or if the vendor doesn't accept PayPal then I just use a Credit Card. I have been considering also signing up for Apple Pay. The forum uses PayPal as the processor for subscriptions here.

What, no Applepay? I find it very convenient to pull out my phone instead of my wallet to reach for my credit card.
My physical credit card number was used three months ~after~ using it in a restaurant in Florida. The charge was only $3. I called my credit card company and within minutes the card number was changed automatically in my Applepay.

The software doesn't currently have a way to set it up for ApplePay.

Cash in an envelope.

Our Club website uses PayPal. We just received a card reader through the Club bank for sales at California Healey Week 2023. I have used Zelle for people I know well.

what we use a lot is simply etransfer through our bank account. simple and secure

I use PayPal mostly, if I have a good vender, credit card. Never debit card. You can fight credit card charges, but not debit card. Bank told me never use debit card for anybody who does not ask for pin on slider.

You guys are fortunate to be able to limit to one online system, direct debit through your bank, and/or credit card.

More and more vendors are ending credit card payment, or not using direct debit through bank, and instead switching to the "less costly" online payment systems. Unfortunately, with dozens of online systems, and vendors choosing whichever system they like - the end user consumer is stuck.

caveat emptor

I've not run into any such issue (yet).

You should never be “stuck”. Your money is green and you can use a different vendor.
