Can we talk about Toilets?

Getting myself psyched up to start a total remodel on the Master bathroom. It's 27 Years old and it shows. The first thing I'm going before anything else is installing a new toilet as ours is beyond worth continuing to repair. After watching about 1000 toilet videos, I've decided on a brand called Toto. Specifically, I've ordered the Toto Drake II. It's a two piece toilet so not as "modern" looking as I'd like, but it seems to get good reviews and is low-flow. I'll probably save a ton on my water bill with this thing compared to the antique I'm using now.

I will be tiling the bathroom floor too and will have to temporarily remove the new toilet when I do that.

I'm going to try to do as much to the work myself as possible. but may have to farm out some of it.

Toto is and excellent choice… good company, good products.

The world’s largest plumbing manufacturer. 5.2 BILLION in sales.

I have also seen excellent reviews for the Toto Drake (and Doug - 'MUST NOT ENGAGE')

Oh Cr*p I have to. :ROFLMAO:

I had never heard of Toto until I started researching toilets. I was familiar with American Standard and Koehler but I started seeing all these videos of Toto and the more I read and watched the more attractive it looked.

I had never tiled a bathroom floor before but found it a relatively easy job. I put a 1/4" concrete type board down first then tiled on top of that.
If I had to do it again I would spring for a cheap wet tile saw or rent one. I did use a piece of angle iron screwed to the floor as a straight edge to keep my tiles in line in one direction.

I've tiled both bathrooms and my kitchen, but having a concrete slab made it a bit easier (had to do some leveling). I will be re-tiling the master bath when I do my remodel.

Many years ago I was interviewed by Toto for a job in NYC but I ended up accepting another offer.

I was going to write something witty, but couldn't move myself...

Seriously, though, if they offer one that's taller than regular height, you'll appreciate it down the road.

I went back and forth on that question but the Drake I ordered is ADA compliant so somewhat taller than standard. Also our current one has a round bowl but this one has an elongated bowl.

That's a job I've procrastinated on for a few years. Patched it together too many times. Floor is tiled already, so at least it's "half-arsed" done.

Need to look at Toto now. But will need a round bowl, not enough room in there for an elongated one.

If you continue to ruminate on which replacement to choose, I recommend staying away from one piece units. I have found that they are too heavy to easily position.

If you continue to ruminate on which replacement to choose,
Not ruminating - already ordered a two piece Toto Drake II. I had thought about a one piece Toto but decided against it based on reviews and price (bang for the buck).

Toto Drake is used in a lot of residential blds

Choose "Comfort Height" if an option. We have Kholer brand with this feature and it a welcomed change without the strain! Thick tile flooring require thicker toilet ring during install. Most double-up the wax ring, but this could result in failure for a once only application. Consider this new sealing product which eliminates "doubling up" and could be used multiple times. Fluidmaster seals can be found at most big box stores. > Fluidmaster Better Than Wax Universal Wax-Free Toilet Seal-7530P24 - The Home Depot <

Thanks for the tip on the non-wax seals. I think I remember on of the videos mentioning these.
