Let's not forget that Hap (speedracer) is offering a kit of his own. Using the
T5 transmission and the like. I think his prices are better than the rivergate prices. Hap has the kit listed on his site www.acmespeedshop.com.
I've thought about this one, as the Austin Marina used the 4-speed that came on earlier TR7's and the Marina used an 1800 as well. So, some permutation of bellhousing/gearbox from the two models may make a working setup.
which brings me to my question. the 1500 Midget transmission is also adapted from the Austin Marina. George Turnbull left British Leyland and went to Korea with 2 marinas and developed the Hyundai Pony. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Turnbull_(autoindustry_executive) )I don't think the Pony ever entered the USA but it did Canada - which makes me wonder how compatible its 5 speed might be
