^^ Sprite Seatbelts

Hello,

Off on vacation this week so far I have managed to make sway bar plates and had them mig welded to the frame horns, they look great. By the end of the week I should have the fenders back on and maybe my superlite wheels will be here for installation. I purchased a set from Hap.

I need seat belts, what is everyone using? My interior will black. VB offers a retractable seat belt and a non retractable.
Thanks Phil

I put Securon retractables in my MGB; they are a little trickly to mount but seem to work well enough.

I had GM non-retractable in mine when I bought it, needless to say they were the first things to go.
I put the Securons in, and, IIRC, the instructions were in centimeters and require a 50 pence piece, stuff like that as they are made in the UK with specific instructions for MGs.

I agree with Jack, they were a little tricky, not hard, just fiddly, but they do the job although never tested in anger thankfully.

For other occasions, I also use a 5 point harness. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I have securons. I don't really care for them. The retractor seems bulky and the cover is poorly constructed. I will be purchasing something else when the time comes for replacement.

OK, did some more reading. These belts lock based on "centrifugal" force. That is the lock engages if the belt is pulled out quickly. My securon belts lock if the car has a sudden change of inertia (in any direction)... or if you are parked on a steep incline (which is aggravating).

Phil..I used the retractables VB offers....seem to work as they should I can move forward when needed but on a sudden yank the shoulder belt locks. The passenger side seemed awkward to install..had to use a metal bracket to push away from the panel...other than that pretty easy.

I bought them on eBay from British Racing Green in Newark, Delaware. Someone sniped me by a dollar at the last minute; I wrote to the seller and he agreed to sell me a pair at the same price. Nice gesture.

Have a look at page 9 in the moss catalogue. They show a 3 pt replacement seat belt kit for a 1973-80 midget (222-030) 239.95. What are your thoughts?
Thanks Phil

I think that sounds expensive... even if you buy it from a Moss Distributor for $190. But, if it is what you want, then money should not be a deciding factor for safety devices.

Hi Trevor,
I agree expensive, but I only want to buy seat belts once. Safety is important, that is how I will approach the cost to my wife.
Thanks Phil

MCS,
I might have a deal for you! I recently bought a set of retractable 3 pt seat belts, and only installed the drivers side. The other one is stil in the box.

I find I never use it. That's surprising because I always use seat belts in a 'normal' car. I think part of the appeal of my BE is that it never had belts.

So maybe you might be interested in buying them from me at a special Discount. I'll have to check what I paid for them.

I have simple lap belts. with bolts through the floor pan, really solid.

When you get your SuperLite wheels from Hap, if you have the 13" x 5.5" ones, you may find you need to grind the top of the track-rod-end stud down to the top of the nut, like I had to.

Took less than 10 minutes after the trip to my neighbourhood Home Depot to get a grinder.

I read the post about the track rod end, the grinder is waiting
Thanks Phil
