Seat options for a Bugeye

Hi guys - hope everyone is done with the shopping and the weather isn't making things tough.

I'm setting a goal of getting the Bugeye back on the road for the Spring, and was wondering what thoughts you guys had on upgrading the seats without getting totally away from something that looked appropriate.

Specifically, I'd like to have a high back seat with some decent head rest to prevent whiplash in case anything ever goes pear shaped, and I'd like to mount a 3 point seat belt as well.

Any ideas on Corbeau Classics or similar seats that would fit?

I used to have a boat that had a beer cooler for a seat... It wasn't too comfy, but after the cooler was about half empty, I didn't seem to care. Once the cooler was empty, I couldn't stay on the seat anymore for some reason. Made the boat darned difficult to navigate.

If Miata seats fit then these should as well. Not sure about brackets etc...but bet those will have to be custom.

Biggest problem with swapping seats on a BugEye is that the rear deck limits how far back you can move the seat.

Mostly depends upon how tall you are, & how far you'll need to move the seat back.
Since the seats you're showing don't recline you'll be somewhat restricted on adjustability.

IF you can borrow a similar seat & do a fit-check you'll know if the leg-room will be acceptable for you.
Otherwise I'd suggest doing a reasonably close mock-up.

OR describe how tall you are, pants inseam, etc. and ask other forum members what seats they have successfully installed (with THEIR heights as ref).

Check out these Cobra seats, the Roadster SS and Roadster SR especially. I checked the dimensions out a while back and, if I recall correctly, I believe they would fit a Bugeye.

Getting in and out of my Sprite is an interesting exercise, and having the top up makes it more interesting as well. I myself would pass on a seat with that much side bolstering. Great for the twistie roads, but more difficult to get in and out.

Just be careful on width of the seats. More than one person on this forum has purchased some of those bargain racing seats over the internet only to find out they are too wide to install in the space you have available.

i think someone on here has the corbeau seats in a spridget. not a bugeye so I guess you results may vary.

I have Cobra Cub Seats in my '78 Midget, plenty of space to spare.
Not a seat for 'ample bottoms' though...
