Looks all red!! Nice! A bit of orange-peel by the look of it, but nothing that can't be rubbed out!! What kind of paint did you use? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

It definately has a little orange peel and a few runs from the clear. For me, the hardest thing was getting the clear to settle/lay out right. The horizontal surfaces took the clear much better than the vertical portions. kind expected I suppose. The horizontal self-leveled while the vertical had gravity working in a way that caused more runs. If I had to do it again, I'd have had my boot, doors, and bonnet horizontal(don't know how I'd do the other side though??). For the first time I've ever painted, I'll take it though.

I used a paint brand called Kirker that I got online. Actually, it's not a true base coat/clear coat but a single stage that you can put a clear on. It's very affordable, which is the main reason I purchased it. Every paint job looks good a day after you shoot it. We'll see in a few years how it holds up.

take it easy - Happy Memorial Day!!

Drew,
Congratulations on a tough job with great looking results? The question I have if you'd do it again?

I Definitely would paint the bonnet and doors lying horizontal. It does require painting the backsides one day and the other side the next. While it is still apart would be the best time to color sand and buff it. That way it is easier to clean up after sanding and buffing. Wet sand with soapy water starting with 1000 grit them moving to 1200 and then 1500 using a sponge sanding pad. Then machine buff using a foam pad and Mequiars #2. Then finish buff with Mequiars #9. Wait 30 days and apply a good wax. You'll have a paint job that looks as good as the pros. I'm not familiar with the paint you used, so experiment first on a small part. Don't wait more than a few days or it will be much harder to do. Just ignore all this if you do not feel comfortable with it. I think it looks better than my first paint job as is.
