Old English White Touch-up Paint

I am looking for Old English White touch-up paint. I would appreciate suggestion as to where it can be ordered and if there is a number or specific request I should make to get the correct color.

Hey Ray,
Not sure if this will help but on a BT7 I had with old English white coves, I was able to use a Ford touch up paint to get a spot on match. Used Wimbledon White, a Ford truck color. Of course when the BT7 was painted, that might have been the color used but sure looks like old English white.

The problem with OEW is that there are many variations of OEW. And if yours is original it will have changed with time. Paints have changed also. Take a part to a good auto paint shop and let them match it using their scanner technology.

Yep - Bring 'em the front splash pan (if it's the right color). Easiest part to remove, easiest to replace.

What’s so frustrating is I never expected to have any difficulty getting OEW touch-up as it is one of the most common LBC color and would be available in all delivery forms. Wrong. OEW is just as elusive as any other Healey color and it sounds as though I will have to have some mixed.

I did have some extra paint when the car was totally stripped and redone in 1989. However, that paint has long dried in the can and the paint dealer has gone out of business with the formula he used. According to the paint dealer (back then), the color was/is an exact match to BMC’s OEW code when mixed from high quality modern paint and I don’t think there is any fading or color change.

The amount of touch-up I need is very small (the bonnet prop rod swung out and did a job on the shroud and a few other chips gained over the years) so the minimum mix quantity is of concern. Ford Wimbeldon White could be a potential match, however, it doesn't seem to be any more available than OEW and would also have to be mixed.


Last, does anyone have the formula for OEW or know what I should reference to the paint dealer to get the correct color?

Well, if you hunt around on the www old-type paint is available. I can get nitrocellulose lacquer (used on 100's, maybe newer cars but I just know 100's because that's what I have), acrylic lacquer and acrylic enamel. It might even be possible to get alkyd enamel but I've never tried. You'll have to do the respray yourself as most paint shops won't but the materials are out there.

I chose Wimbledon White based on recommendations here and it looks good on the hardtop which is the only thing I have painted so far.

Thanks for referencing me to your previous thread. Sorry for not searched the forum before I initiated this thread as I would have understood the difficulty in my request a lot sooner. It is obvious, when thinking about it, that OEW on the car was mixed with less precise equipment so I guess looking for a commercially available touchup was a somewhat impossible search. I will be looking for a dealer that will mix a small amount of paint and will see if they can mix the OEW from a scan of my car. If there is any difficulty, I will go with the Wimbledon White.
