My Sprite is gone...

I took the Sprite to the shipper today, to start her long voyage to Germany. The new owner lives near Freiburg, but of course she will be shipped to Hamburg. I'm not sure how he plans to get her from Hamburg to Freiburg, but that's his concern, of course.

The shipper's facility was a real eye-opener. The lot was a veritable classic-car museum. Quite a few British cars, often in quite bad condition. I'm not sure whether those were to be shipped, or if someone had a parts business going as well. Also some nice Porsches and Mercedes. But, I'm pleased to say, the Sprite was one of the best looking cars there.

Anyway, all that's left of her is an oil spot in the driveway. I'll miss her, but I know this is the right thing to do. She'll be happy running around the Schwarzwald, chasing elves and cuckoo clocks.

The games played with international currencies makes buying from the US a bargain for most country's right now. Hate to see all that classic iron leaving our shore though, including yours Steve.

Sad to see it go-
I know t5hat there are several people who export (mostly rustfree) cars from the southwest and know that it will continue so long as there are folks in Europe/Japan who want/can afford them. I have seen lots of them go.
Steve- keep in touch on the forum!

That driveway spot is sad to look at.

I hope you'll stick around here Steve and I hope you'll keep your web site up also. You have been a wealth of knowledge to me and it would be very sad if you left.

Doug, nice of you to say that.

Yes, I plan to hang around, as will my web site. It's also entirely possible I'll end up with another LBC, but something different this time. Maybe a TR4 or Healey 3000--something that I feel more comfortable driving on the freeways. For now, though, I have a lot of work to do on my Porsche 912 to get it into the shape I'd like. Once that's stable (note that I don't say "finished," as they never are), maybe...who knows?

I sold my TR4 to a guy from Germany this summer. After he bought it, his wife decided she wanted an LBC, so she bought a 1952 MG from Texas.

I know these are both good and sad moments (my Bugeye should be leaving this weekend). Hopefully your Sprite will bring lots of smiles to the new owner. Enjoy working on that Porsche.

This is what happens when you stay with a group for a long time. Things change, cars (girlfriends, spouses, houses, kids, etc.) come and go.
