Healey Gear Box & OD oil

Just looking for some advice on oil others had success with for racing. I've been using straight 30W (non-detergent) but read that others have had success with MT90 in their street cars.

Thoughts for the racer?

Welcome in. I've run Redline MT90 in both my '65 BJ8 street car and my '57 100-6 MM vintage racer. Both cars with overdrive, no problems except I noticed maybe a little more oil lose through the seals. Hard to tell on a British car, it wasn't noticeable on the trans dip stick, just the garage floor. Redline does seem to make a difference at race speeds and I know it lubricates much better at the higher temperature levels generated in the longer enduro events.

Thanks Dougie,

I was thinking you might have some experience with this. I'm up for trying the Redline this time. I've heard it finds it's way past some of the seals and onto the garage floor, but everything else seems to be good.

Both of my Elvas habve MGCR boxes. I use MT90 and agree that it is prone to find leaks but it provides smoother and faster shifts than does Castrol 30.

Nothing to offer on the oil (I don't have an O/D gearbox), but sounds like I'll see you both at The Glen in a few days.

FYI: I'm pretty sure I'm meeting with some of the Jersey guys (Butch, Storm, Steve, etc) at the Seneca Lodge on Friday night. If you're around, stop in.
