got into an accident

Got into an accident a couple weeks ago and need my 7 hopefully fixed. Need to find a shop that specializes in these "specialty" vehicles as we all know that parts are very difficult to come by. Was going to take my 7 to a local Seidners Collision Center, but they said they were afraid they wouldn't be able to source the parts to fix the car and the insurance company told me to find a shop that fixes up these cars. So I need a favor from you folks, need to find a body shop in or near the San Gabriel Valley in California that can handle all of this. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Oh, below are a couple pics of how my baby looks now.

Is Long Beach too far to consider? When my 3A got wrecked, my ins co sent me to a shop in LB. They didn't "specialize" in LBCs, but seemed to take it in stride, no complaints about not being able to get parts or anything. As it turned out, their estimate was more than I was insured for, so I didn't have them do the work (estimate was basically $12k for replacing the entire body).

Sorry I don't recall the name offhand, but I can find it if you are interested.

I'm OK, Skip, thank goodness, but my 7 is really hurting as you can tell. Randall, if you can get me the name of the place that would be great. The other party's adjuster is supposed to come by and do a lookover to assess the damages. I think the repairs will be more than what the car is worth like Randall... we shall see. If the 7 ends up being a parts car then so be it.

All this is giving me a great big headache, literally and figuratively. I'll see what the adjuster has to say when s/he inspects it. It's looking like a "total loss" since the frame looks bent. Have to see how much I can get for her from the insurance company.

Look on the bright side. With the economy in the tank, TR8 prices are way down. Good time for an upgrade. Oh yea!

A little bit of an update: The other insurance company's appraiser came by today to take some pics and give the 7 a look over. He says that they may consider it a total loss. Gotta wait until Wednesday or so for their final decision.

Of course the other company is gonna right it off. I say have your insurance company fight for you. Who is your ins. Co.

This could be a good thing. The ins. company of the guy that hit me gave me what I asked for $$ and I kept the TR3. With the extra $ I was able to rebuild the car to a little better than before. Don't let the ins, people off easy.

Assuming you have collision insurance, you should be to subrogate, meaning you deal with your ins co, and they deal with the other ins co. Typically that gets the car repaired quicker. At least call your agent and talk to them about it.

But it's not too soon to start gathering your ammunition as to what the car is worth. Any evidence you have as to condition (shows won, etc.) is helpful; as is anything you can turn up about what similar cars have sold for, NADA values, etc.

Remember, their legal obligation is to "make you whole"; but their job (and duty to shareholders) is to get off as cheaply as possible. You can expect to have to fight for what's right.

I don't have collision, just one-way. I'll wait and see how much they offer, if their offer is anywhere in the same zip code as the fair market value then I'll just take the money and run. I got the car basically for free from my father's friend a little over a year ago. He had stored it in a warehouse for about 2 years before we took it home. So whatever money I can get from the insurance company will just be icing on the cake.

No love for that car. Your lucky that the person that hit you had the proper insurance. Another underinsured motorist.
