Datsun 5 speed swap clutch issues

Cheers all! I'm posting this on behalf of my best friend who owns a 1960 bug-eye and isn't computer savvy...

He bought a conversion kit from Morris service to install the datsun 5 speed into his bug eye, right before the fellow passed away. He added the 7/8" slave cylinder from rivergate and is using a 7/8 master cylinder. The problem is that no matter how we adjust the clutch, it seems to release at the very bottom of the pedal, less than 1/2" from the floor. I've searched everywhere, and tried everything, but can't seem to get it to work right. The goal is to have the clutch release somewhere in the middle of the pedal...

any suggestions/thoughts?

I am using Paul's kit myself and it works fine for me. Do you have the adjustable slave push rod? I have it on mine and have it adjusted so that 1 1/8" extend beyond the throw out arm.

I do have an adjustable pushrod. I think what is happening is that I'm not adjusting things correctly. I've been searching the interwebs like a madman, and am piecing together an idea of the proper way to adjust the clutch. Tell me if I'm on the right track-

Adjust the master cylinder so that the clutch rod just barely turns in the cylinder with no pressure on the pedal
Adjust the slave- Piston has to be at the bottom of the slave and the adjustable push rod has to have 1/16" free play before engaging the throw out lever.

Other folks have mentioned the need to use a shorter adjustable push rod, but I'm not too sure I see the reasoning behind that.

I'll be heading back to the shop on Saturday to try again. Cheers!

By lengthening the ball stud (assuming it has one), and shortening the adjustable pushrod, you can move the engagement point.
When I installed my Smitty 5-speed had to fab a longer ball stud from a metric bolt.
