Classics on the Common - my local show

My local car show "Classics on the Common" takes place on the last Wednesday in July.

Ours is a small town, pop 40,000, about 25miles from central London. It grew from a few guys meeting on a Summer evening and we now get 1000 cars and 10,000 visitors and we raise about 30K GBP for local charities.

We dont "park by marque" and this generates some interesting contrasts.
Sometimes the parking Marshall tries to make a point!

To overcome this it has been known for owners to form a convoy so they can park together. I have a shot of this happening where every vehicle is the same from the same maker. You need to be a bit extrovert to do this.

Nominally your vehicle should be over 20years old but we dont enforce this rigourously.

The link also shows some of the more unusual vehicles including the first Lotus ever designed and built by Chapman.

Thanks for posting those photos. Many cars I'd never even heard about. That Jowett Javelin tourer is quite something. An interesting - and sad - story is the rise and decline of the Jowett company.

The "what's this" is a Marchal Vaucanson Starter. Pre-WW1 optional electric starter for crank start engines. Can't tell what car it's on.

Thanks.
Tom

The Jowett is a Jupiter model if I remember correctly.

The three Vanguards all belong to the same guy who has 24 of them, 12 are runners.
They have more or less the Triumph TR engine, gbox and OD.

The Talbot is an ex Le-Mans car and probably "valuable".

Camera battery went flat so you will have to wait til next year for the rest of the regulars to appear.

We had the last Lamborgini Diablo ever made.

I really hoped to get pix of a Bean.
This has two pistons in one cylinder on a V-shaped con-rod and loads of other unique features.
In fact it has no "conventional" features AT ALL. Brakes on just one wheel.

Lovely! I was at the Scottish Transport Extravaganza a few years ago and it struck me how few MGB/Midget/Spitfire/Tr6's there were. (No offence to any - including mine - but the 60 th typically looks pretty much the same as the first. What I love seeing is unique & " what's that?" And, "why did you pick that?" Cars. Thanks!
