Recently I checked out a bugeye that a couple is looking into selling and opted to pass on it, but figured someone on here might be interested. The story is that the car is being sold by the second owners, and he is in early stages of Alzheimer's and realizing that he will never get it back on the road. It quit running around 40 years ago and was parked in the garage. Now that sounds appealing, but the car needs some help to repair the hackwork that was done. It has an Opal motor/transmission, and a rear end out of ?? The trans tunnel was hacked and enlarged, battery tray cut out, battery relocated in a custom box recessed in where the heater blower motor would reside, and the exhaust was routed out through the rocker and a hole was cut for this. Also, some sort of strange skid plate was welded to the frame rails, perhaps for reinforcement with the heavier motor??
The good is the bonnet is in very nice condition, as is the rest of the metal on the car. No rust. Obviously a full tear down and restoration is needed. $1800 for it. Good project for someone who has fabrication skills and won't have to outsource for it.
I told the couple I'd spread the word on the car, so if you are interested, PM me and I'll give them your contact info.
