I'm having a discussion with a guy over the mechanics of Healey record breaking at Bonneville against Millbrook (see picture). I have been suggesting that I would find it easier on a banked and metaled track to break records than on the salt at Bonneville.
What I'm getting thrown at me is the banked track will scrub 7mph from the top speed, that Bonneville is smoother and that the air pressure is lower due to altitude helping aerodynamics. If you're traveling at speed on the salt is it a better surface? Will you lose speed due to tyre scrub on a two-mile circular course at Bonneville?
Help!
