2009 TRA National Meet

I posted a notice in the National Events Forum about the National Meet. Check it out. My local TRA Center, Mason-Dixon, is the host and I am involved in the planning and running of this event. It's June 17 - 20 in Charles Town, West Virginia.

I hope to see some BCFers come. TRA focusses on TR2-3-4-4A, but you can bring any Triumph.

I know from reading some posts here that some of you have been turned off by TRA's concentration on concours d'elegance. And, to be frank, I think you make a good point; however, don't discount the driving events. We will lap Summit Point Motorsports Park, for example. I insisted on a Please Do Not Judge registration in addition to the concours and Participants' Choice categories. I sure don't want my TR3, Patina, to be judged!

Some of you posted that TRA members are stand-offish. I forwarded these posts to my fellow Mason-Dixoners and we promise to be friendly.

Won't you try us out this year? triumphregister.com

Do you have a figure yet on the host hotel rate? That is usually the deal killer when the nightly rate is $150+. I loudly complained when the local host hotel charged TRA 03 the princely rate of $75 per.

Forget the silly driving events - it's all about Concours D'elegance!

I don't have an exact figure for you in front of me, Lou, but I can find out and get it for you. It can be under $150, though, depending on what kind of room you want.

The TRA National Meet room rate for a standard room at The Inn at Charles Town is $125 plus tax.

Suites are available for extra cost, but discounted for meet attendees

A hot buffet breakfast is included in this price.

It's not "all about" any one particular thing. The beauty of this gathering is that it attempts to provide things of interest for all. If you want to haul your car to the meet on a trailer and simply put it in the Concours, you are more than welcome to do so and you will be met with open arms. If your interest lies in driving great roads then there is plenty of opportunity for that. I have found that, for the TRA meets I have attended, the other attendees have been very friendly, and the meets are always held someplace interesting with more than enough activites to fill every day. This year's event is shaping up to be no different.

It would be great to see some BCFers

Looks like a great location. Can you tell me what classes are planned for the Concours - model/type, etc? Are there going to be "Modified" classes or strictly showroom stock?

I don't know much about concours, but from looking at the registration form, the categories are: TR2, TR3, TR3A, TR3B, TR4, TR4A, and Modified. I assume that all modified cars are put in the same class. Maybe if enough modified cars of one model enter they will make another class, but I have no idea.

The National guys are in charge of the concours. I am in charge of the Gimmick Rallye, Funkhana, and Summit Point trip. But I'll ask around!

John, thanks for posting the info about the TRA. I'm sure Charles Town is an excellent venue.

Regarding the meet, are there normally a fair number of cars for sale there?

TRcheologist: There is only one Modified class in concours. All modified cars, regardless of model, are put in this class.

Mark: Very few, if any, of the cars that attend are for sale. But, as Fats Waller asks, "One never knows, do one?".

An auto jumble is scheduled for the Friday, so a vendor might have a car for sale.

I am replying to myself in order to move this post to page 1.

I hope some of you are planning to attend.

I have been writing the Event Manual. Some fun events are planned!

The Summit Point racetrack lapping is especially appealing to me. In 2007, we lapped Watkins Glen and that was cool. Summit Point doesn't have the history of Watkins Glen, but it's a great track for lapping. And it's only $18 per person.

Bill Scott, track owner, will give a talk about his racing experiences afterward. He started out racing Formula cars in Europe.

Bill Piggott is coming, too. He always has amusing stories.

Hope to see you there!

Would love to make it, but work has this irritating, nasty habit of interfering!

John, I know my brother is planning on going. It's relatively close for him. He's been excited about it for a while now.
