With frame on level stands my drivers front fender is 1 inch higher than the pass?

I've been playing the spring plates and noticed that I can't get the fender lips level.

I put the the car on stands and the fenders are still not level?

I'm wondering if the whole front (hood, wings, etc) wasn't installed correctly (purchased the car restored).

Wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts before I tore into it deeper

Do you know someone with a body shop with a frame rack? It would be worth the money to know whether the chassis is straight, then know that the body panels are wrong.

I took some measurements and even when the frame is level on stands the fenders/bonnet are up about 1 inch higher on the drivers side.

how flat is your floor? have you swapped ends when you measured to even out floor error??? have you looked for possible crash damage?

Let’s assume your floor is flat, the frame is straight, and one wing is higher than the other as described, do you know if the car was a rebuild as a result of an accident?

It is very possible that the inner structure was installed incorrectly and the shroud and fender fitted to line up. To check this out, you will need to take of the doors to disassemble the fenders. If careful, this can be done without causing any damage to the paint and should only take a couple of hours.

With the fenders off, you will be able to take measurements from the frame to the top of the inner fender and shroud to see if they match. If one side is higher than the other, you may have the play to carefully adjust the height of the shroud and then fender to bring all in line. If not, you may be able to carefully cut or bend the top of the higher inner fender and drill new fender attachment holes. Since the fenders should have the same dimensions and are properly align with the doors and rockers, I suspect any alterations will need to be made toward the forward 2/3rds of the inner fender. Should the change required be greater then the amount of flex available, you may need to go much further and remove the windshield and shroud to reset the cross member.

If you purchased the car because you were happy the way it looked, what caused you to notice this difference and has it caused any operational problem it has caused? If all works well, why not leave it as is and just enjoy?
