TR6 TR6 seats fit into a TR3 or TR4?

So the touring event that just wrapped up has me thinking that need to put high back seats in the earlier TRs in order to provide some measure of safety when doing fast road work.

I know that Miata and Corbeau sits have been made to fit, but how about TR6 seats? Since the seat tracks are the same they should just bolt in, right?

I have a 74 TR6 and <=>59 TR3 (well most of the parts to make the 3 anyway), The last time I had the seats out of the 6 to dry the carpet, I placed them into the TR3. The TR6 seats are much wider than the TR3. The top of the seat bottom will not fit between the trans tunnel and the door. I don't know about the seat rails matching, but it doesn't seem to matter.

TR6 should bolt right into TR4 if the tracks are the same. You would have to alter the tonneau cover to make room for headrests, unless you can find seats from a '69.
I know somebody who is running TR250 seats in his 3. The seat rails would have to be swapped out as they aren't the same.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the info. I got concerned about the low back seats when we were hustling on the tour and one of the guys got rear ended.

I should probably start looking into rollbars as well...

I think I'd do a rollbar with a headrest before I tried highback seats. They'd look pretty darn weird (at least in a 2 or a 3). and they still woulden't help in a rollover

i have to agree. when i bought my 4 whose seats were shot the guy selling suggested 6 seats. that just isn't right. i would rather have a numb butt than change them.
and what is moss thinking, they have a 4 with highbacks in their catalog.

While the roll bar is a good idea, even a low speed shunt in your rear by a bint on her mobile in an SUV will cause you serious whiplash with the original seats. That is why I went the Mazda seat route first.

I use Corbeau classic with adjustable headrest and inflatable lumbar support in my 4. They are comfortable but a bit narrow, I gotta watch the beer consumption.

I'm leaning that way Mark. How do they fit? Did you use their seat rails?

I used their seat rails. I had to drill some holes in the floor. I removed some of the foam material from the lower cushion to get me a bit lower in the car. I am 5'11" 205 lb. I don't particularly like a modern looking seat in the 4, but that's just me. The important thing is to get a seat that increases your comfort and safety.
