MGB-GT Tony Barnhill MGB GT race car project.

Offline
I ended up with tony GT race car project, and planned on finishing it and racing it, but as fate will have it, a complete and very well developed MGB roadster race car I help developed fell into my lap, and now I need to concentrate on the one race car, and need a second one like I need a hole in my head  So it's time for Tony race GT to find a new home, Mickey, told me to post it here, so hopefully Basil will be cool with that. It's not alot of money, and it would be really cool if someone that knew Tony ended up getting the car and doing something with it.

here's some more details on the car.

I'm goign to put the car on Ebay, probably this weekend, so it going to sell to someone, and hopefully it is someoen who knew Tony.

Yes, I asked Hap to post this here. Would love to see this project completed; Tony was very proud of this car, along with his SSSSnake project. It deserves to be finished and shared with the whole MG community.

I'd buy it immediately if it weren't for shipping, which would double the price at the very least. That and I wold definitely have to spray another color over that primrose! (or whatever color that is)

Steve, is that's what the color is called, you know me not too much of purist, so it primrose? I will say this, though, the checker flag roof was alot of work, and is very well done, as is the bodywork, but the flag top is pure artwork, I thought if i had finished the car the the body colr would change but the checkered falg roof would stay, because it was so well done, it's painted , not vinyl

I believe that's Limeflower - as in the B driven by Britt Ekland in The Man With the Golden Gun .

You're probably correct...and have seen the car in person. Pictures seldom do justice.

Just went back and looked at the notes we made when we auctioned Tony's stuff. The color, according to Tony's documentation, is Citron.

Yeah, Citron sounds right. It does look a bit too yellow and perhaps a shade dark for primrose. Really not my cup of tea, that color, but I can appreciate the work that went into the paint job.

Well, a follow up on this and I think it could be a very good place for this car to be going. It sold to Tim Suddard of Classic/Grassroots Motorsports magazines. he wants to take the car and make into a vintage car for his son, it my be covered in story by CMS about how a young person on limited budget could choose vintage racing a car like a MGB over going SCCA or NASA racing a more modern car. I'm very pleased with who bought the car and it's intended direction. i will deliver the car to Tim at the Mitty later this month at Road Atlanta, so if you're there, make sure to give her a look.

I think Tony would approve

Don't remember exactly, but Hap did well.

Interestingly, overall the auction went fairly well. Some things didn't draw nearly as much as we thought they would; others surprised us with what they brought.

That's what makes auctions so interesting. We used to go to a lot of antique auctions and after sizing up the crowd, we would decide if we would even bid on an object or not. I always loved being the last bidder behind a dealer, as they know market value and are only interested in a profit. Average folks, that's another story, use caution.

I know it's late but, glad the auction went well. PJ

This car was not part of Tony's estate auction, I got it before the auction ever happen. I sold the car for $1500.
