The little 1/4" SAE bolt holding my trunk rod onto the trunk lid managed to wallow out of it's hole. No problem, just grab another bolt from my bag of LBC junk and move on. Well, wallow out it did indeed, after years of opening and closing, it stripped the threads. Enter HeliCoil! Of course the trunk (boot) lid wouldn't allow me to use the two-handled tap wrench so I am struggling with a shifting spanner, trying to keep it straight and inline. And cursing the whole time. All this time the wife is rummaging through my tool drawer and I am thinking she is looking for a garden tool. Well lo and behold she comes out with a 1/4" extension for the tap and says, "Here, try this!" Ya gotta lovem. Maybe she wants that TR3 engine after all.

The old threads are drilled and tapped out larger and then an insert (which kind of looks like a spring) is screwed in which has the correct thread size, which in this case would be 1/4 inch. Rather easy and it works well. Even used to replace messed up sparkplug threads.
