GT6 Original GT6 Mk 1 cooling fan

There was a 7 blade fan during that time period that was not a true yellow. Pictures were on a earlier post, but when the change, no idea, but I do also have those, which I found looking for the other one.
The duel brake master was mounted different, sideways and larger cylinder.
The head bolts are interesting, under the manifold on the right side, so a rebuild means new gasket for the manifold, as you have to take it off to retorque the head after a heat cycle.

Doug, More than one source shows GT6 mk 1 production ending in September '68 and GT6+ starting in July '68. So there was overlapping production of the two models. April 1 '68 was the cut off for imports meeting federal safety and emission standards (these federal standards are said to be the reason Austin Healey stopped producing the 3000). I've seen a few other mk1's with the federalized changes (and it sounds like Jeff's is one) and I've seen purported '68's that are like yours (they don't have the comm plate with the April 1 1968 statement).
Supposedly the yellow fan and the 13lb radiator cap (instead of 7lb) were felt to be needed to cope with expected higher temperatures caused by the retarded ignition timing.

Hi Doug,
Jay's car is as sold in the U.S. in late 1968 to meet the changing U.S. emission and safety standards. Mine too (a late 68) has the dual brake circuit with PDWA, the Delco D204 dizzy with dual vacuum nipples (retard and advance), and the Stromberg "emissions" carbs - CDS or CDSE stamped. Your 67 is correct if fitted with CD carbs with the nylon linkages between them, a Delco D202 dizzy with vernier adjustable vacuum unit, a single vacuum line to the front carb, and the stamped metal fan. It predates the change in U.S. standards. At least this is my understanding. Much of this is captured in the GT6 Mark 1, 2 & 3 and Vitesse 2-litre Workshop Manual. My only confusion at this point is when they switched form the metal stamped fan to the yellow plastic eight blade fan. If as part of meeting the new U.S. standards, I (luckily) have the proper fan.

And, thanks Jay for posting the detailed photos. I'm looking for the metal vacuum lines and if I can't find them, your photos will be very helpful in replicating them. Jeff

Jeff, Let me know if you end up fabricating the lines...I can supply more photos and measurements if you like. In your search, try Scott Harper at https://teamtriumph.com/ big used parts inventory. I've had luck there. Also...I'd approach https://www.classictube.com/, they do great work and have a ton of drawings collected from manufacturers (including Triumph) that it's possible they could make up the vacuum hard lines...by the way, the tubes are the same OD as the brake lines.

I've sourced a nice metal blade, very much intact. I'm thinking, however, that the more photos I find from owners with original late 68s that they may have been equipped with the yellow plastic fan. Perhaps they started to add them to late 68s before the introduction of the GT6+. In any event, the documentation is spotty. If I feel a need to install the metal fan, I'll have one in reserve ready to go.

Many thanks.
Jeff

Jay, our GT6 is a '67 built for export to the U.S. but picked up in London by my father-in-law. Prior to us getting the car many years ago he may have changed a few things. However, I am certain that our regular CD carbs (not CD2) are original as is the Delco dizzy with only vacuum advance. The plastic fan that is on our engine does indeed look like yours. I am not sure I would call ours yellow. From age ours looks sort of off-white or cream colored. As such, during an engine rebuild 4 years ago I used cream plastic/vinyl paint to re-color it.

What I find surprising is that your car, only one year newer than ours, has the dual brake line system with PDWA, the advance/retard dizzy, and a brake master cylinder that looks very much like what was on our '72 Spitfire.

Incidentally, Jeff (the OP) is also looking for those emissions tubes connected to the PCV valve fitting on the intake manifold. If he doesn't find what he is looking for, maybe you could measure what you have so he can duplicate it.
