I've had my '62 MGA for a little over a month..two weeks ago, car ran rough and died after 4 mile uphill, started easily a few hours later and ran fine on short trips close to home. Float chamber was loose/open and several folks suggested vapor lock.
Yesterday, after about 4 miles of rolling terrain, same thing...car ran rough at stop light and died on acceleration. Pulling out the choke did not help. Left car for an hour or so, started it up and got only a few hundred yards down the road. Left it for another couple of hours, same thing...started up and died after a few hundred yards. Finally after three hours of sitting, started and limped the final few hundred yards to the driveway.
As I said previously...I know nothing of carbs, but have been reading all I can and checking everything. So, carbs appear to be okay.
Do I now turn to the ignition? If so, do I begin with the coil?
Carbs and ignition are the two areas I had planned to learn about as I became familiar with the car...I've only had it a little over a month. When I got the car, there were no problems and the first several runs around town went off without a hitch.
I would like to be able to diagnose and fix this on my own. And, I want to be self-sufficient as I venture a bit farther from home with the car.
Any advice is appreciated.
