Discovered why, or at least partially why, the TR6 runs like crap.

Part #64, the folded coupling that insures the carb throttle shafts move in unison is broken and won't hold the front carb in sync with the rear.

$20+/- each from the big three - ouch.

Are there alternatives?

Rubber fuel line and stainless clamps, but not for too long.

Yeah - it's not like I'm stuck somewhere and need to make it home. I want to fix it right.

Not the end of the world, but on a per ounce basis this stuff is expensive!

Insert joke here ____________________________.

Gonna have to bite the bullet unless someone on the forum has an extra they can mail you at nominal cost. And the exploded diagram shows SU's. That's a nice upgrade for a TR6!

Might have it but I can see the part. Must be #64 blind.

It's the connector between the two carbs on the trottle shafts.

I actually like the idea of the rubber hose and clamps.

Tdskip-

I've very recently had my coupling off to
rehab it and take out the crinks. 1/2 hr tops.

IF my coupling was broken and IF no other coupling
existed in the world- I could probably fabricate one
from an old auto license plate, my grinder, metal file,
bench vice, hammer and a masonry cold chisel for bend
creases inscribes and my drill press and bits..

Purchase a new one, is my advice.

Sounds like a new side business there Dale! LOL.

If those are the same as a TR6 Zenith Stromberg carb(s), I think that I may have some spares on eBay carbs that I bought over the years. If you want to wait until I return to my parts collection on Friday, I'd be happy to send you a set from on of those, free of charge.

Just email me a picture of yours so that I send you enough. It looks like one set should do it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Here's what I did:
1 ea: threaded rod coupler sized to slide onto the shaft with little play (long nut -- about 1-1/4")
2 ea: set screw
Drill and tap the coupler for the set screws. Put one end of each of the shafts to be coupled into the coupler and tighten the set screws. WAY less than $20 + shipping.

(Then I was so horrified by what I had done, I bought the coupler.)

You might want to take a look at:

https://sdp-si.com/eS

for a different type of flexible shaft coupler. I had some alignment and flexing problems initially with the triple ZS setup on mine, and these worked great.
I used P/N A 5Z 7-11010. Length selections are limited, so measure first.
IIRC, the price was about $15 plus shpg.

Yep, just bought them recently for the triple carb set up. Just wait until you want to do an engine. Costs add up very quickly.

I start to hyperventilate everytime I go to buy the cold air box set up for the trips.

You are whinning about 20 bucks? LMHO, 20 bucks, I'm whinning about over 30 thousand. Spent about 1000 this month on PI parts, and probably about 1500 or so to go, and don't know where I will be when I get there. Fork over the 20 bucks. Cut the dog back to half rations? I want my 30+ thousand back, and don't have a dog to put on a diet.
