Wow - she looks pretty solid from the pictures.
It's a real good starting point.
BCF member Steve told me of the car. Steve's dad owned it for the last 13+ years or so. It had been redone sometime in the past but the engine had a scuffed piston and stuck rings. John (Steve's dad) said it used a about a quart of oil each mile!
John disassembled the engine (original to the car) and laid everything out on a table but never went any further with it. I have all the bits to reassemble the engine. The car has some unusual seats that are unknown to me. The transmission bellhousing was sorta butchered to accomodate a late TR starter with the long Bendix drive and will either have to be repaired or replaced.
The body is pretty straight with some evidence of previous bondo work and the car has some scratches but overall it's an honest car...no surprises. The floorboards have some rust issues but are much better than many I've seen.
Before I left with the car on Saturday Steve reminded me to make sure the knock offs were tight. I brought out my trusty ball pein and gave each rear wheel a few taps with the hammer. One mile down the road the RR wheel took off after the KO fell off! After a little hustling to retrieve the errant wheel from traffic (no one hit it thank God) and finding the KO, I jacked the car up on a wide spot in the road and replaced the wheel. You can be sure I got out and re-tightened that wheel several times on the way home (130 miles).
What's life without a little excitement?
