Wiring Question on Starter Solenoid.

In checking a start Solenoid for correct connections I noticed that the two high tension lugs are isolated from ground and to each others, as expected.

I also noticed the small lug lead from start switch was gounded?

Is this correct?

The small lug lead is not actually grounded. It goes to one end of the solenoid operating coil which is likely to be around two to three Ohms. The other end of this coil is grounded. So you are reading from the terminal through the coil to ground.

Thanks I was not thinking in terms of a coil and now understand why I get a reading to the case from that lug. I assume when power is applied the circut is completed and the Solenoid than passes the voltage between the two high tension lugs.
