Windshield dissassembly!

I dissassembled one of my windshields in preparation for rechroming. I was trying to figure out what is the purpose of the steel strap in the support post. It is revited to part of the main support post but I dont know what its function is except for maybe a spacer or rigidity. Any comments, has anyone left this piece out during reassembly? How difficult is it to rivit all this stuff back together. Always more questions the further I get into the project. Thanks and have a good day!

Hi John, I think you will find that the general concensus of opinion is to let all the rivits in the frame alone. The frame contains removable spacers and rivited on stiffeners.---Fwiw--Keoke

I believe the steel strap is to strengthen the post assembly. I checked first with the chrome plater and he suggested I remove the J hooks and the steel plate since these would interfere with a clean rechrome. I left all the other rivets in place. I bought new rivets from British Car Specialists but haven't installed them yet. Should be great fun to press them in place without marring the chrome! Here's a few pictures after chroming
