Wife's 1st drive alone in Bridget

So the wife drove Bridget from town to her fathers cottage this afternoon, when I was home at lunch she decided to head out while I was there in case she had trouble doing her first "cold" start, she jumped in, adjusted the seat way forward, made sure it was in neutral, check parking brake, pulled choke out (all the way - hold out with left hand while turning key with right), Bridget fired right up & Paula then set it at half choke, pointed at the temp gauge & said "so when this needle moves past the "C" I put the choke in all the way right ?", then she turned on the lights, set the radio to play country music & away she went -
Just spoke with her & she didn't stall once during her 45 minute drive, remembered to shut the choke off & even seen another MG along the way & exchanged waves...
Only one comment that made me "shiver".. she says "you know that left turn off the highway to my dad's cottage road... well when your going fast on the high way & shift into 2nd (to make turn onto side road) & let the clutch out the motor really revs up"... I replied "yes dear it does... remember you shouldn't downshift into 2nd unless your already going a normal speed for 2nd" she reply's "ohh ya - I'll remember that for next time, will the motor be okay ?"... I said I'm sure she just "cleaned things up a little in the motor" she said it was running fine, gotta love those 1275's !

Now it will be a good thing you have more than one car. Kathie hasn't worked up the nerve to try driving mine yet. But then it hasn't been the most reliable thing on four wheels either. I'm working on that.

You're a generous guy Jer, The cornering comment might have made me shiver but that other action would have caused me to ask her to get out of the car and return the keys immediately. You know what I mean: "country music"

Yep JP I have to agree with you on that one! I would rather listen to the purr of my motor. If for no other reason than to make sure she's running fine.

I haven't convinced Carlene to take Emmie out alone yet.

I think it's realy cool to see a lady at the wheel of an MG. Glad that you let your bride take it out. Bet it won't be her last either!

When my lady was a bit younger back in the early 1960s she raced and won with a Bugeye. No damage ever.

My wife has driven has driven my cars a fair amount. She often forgets and leaves the choke on. :frown:

I bought my wife a 1966 Austin Healey Sprite which she loved until I showed up one day with nice 1953 Austin Healey 100-4. She gave me back the keys to the Sprite and claimed the 100-4 as hers. She drives it all the time and I have to ask to use it. Or take my 1966 Sprite
