Which Toyota Calipers?

I recall that there is a certain Toyota Caliper that will bolt up to the front of a Spridget. Can anyone help me out with year and model? I seem to remember an early 80's 4wd, but a search online was no help, the same with using the search here.

Really? Any more details?

It was the small toyota pickup.

I've never heard of this swap. It can't be that simple or it would be more common. Right?

Could it be this Toyota Hilux

That looks sorta like an early Tacoma. I still want to see more information about the conversion. Would it require a bigger disc?

Those are the ones with the steel pipe connecting the inside pistons to the outsides? I recall seeing them a while ago when I first did the research. The Tacoma and Hilux are the same vehicle: 4wd pickups. My problem was that I was looking under the Fourunner SUV which had a different looking caliper on Autozone's website. IIRC they are a direct bolt on and use the same rotor. Now I want to know just what sort of shim is needed to use the Spitfire rotors and what the advantage is to them over the drilled Spridget rotors I currently have sitting on the shelf?

Thanks for the rapid response......!!

The only thing I turned up was that you can swap a GT6 caliper with the Toyota one. I'm not finding any reference to this swap for a Spridget.

You need to look for an MGB upgrade, since the MGB brakes are a direct bolt-on the Toyotas are too AFAIK.

I think the MGB calipers are not a direct bolt on. I believe they require an adapter bracket, spitfire rotors and an adapter to the spridget hub.

My MGB calipers bolted right up to my Sprite uprights with no problems. I am using drilled stock rotors, not the Spitfire ones.

Well, I've certainly never tried, so I believe you. Next question... Do you know where I can see pictures of this setup on an MGB?

I've seen plenty of Spridgets with MGB calipers (and the Spit rotors+adapter.....they're used because they are bigger than the stock rotors).

You can see the page at Winner' Circle where they list them ( ~Click Here~...about half way down the page)

I've heard about Toyota truck calipers fitted to bigger TRs (TR4s, TR6s, etc), but not Spridgets. Possible I guess, but I've never seen it.

Spit rotors and Toy binders are the set up I am going with on my 4AGE car too. Guess I just like the toyota stuff. Lots cheaper than going wilwood. Now master cylinders,,,,, that I have not figured out yet.

IIRC I cannot use the Spit rotors with my wire wheels, but I may be incorrect about that. My Westy will weigh around 1300 lbs (I hope!) so I am beginning to think I will need some sort of adjustable proportioning valve to keep the rears from locking up. Any suggestions about which one is best?

Thanks for the offer but I have that Magazine, I just did not look at it closely, and I assumed that there were adapter brackets needed. I'll go take a look at it.

I built a 925lbs se7en and a proportioning valve wasn't much good. The problem I had was that the front brakes did ALL the work and I could not transer the bias to the rear--even with the prop valve fully open to the rear. I suggest going with a dual MC setup.

OK, regarding the calipers, I'm very interested. I was/am shocked by the sprung weight in the front corners of these little cars. So...

1.) Is the MGB caliper lighter?

2.) is the MGB caliper a multi-piston setup?

3.) Is the Toyota caliper lighter? Multi piston?

4.) When doing the caliper swap, I take it one needs to use the MGB MC as well, no?

--Cheers, Chris
