Where to find springs

Hi There,

My '64 MGB is a little low in the rear end which is causing some problems traversing speed bumps. I imagine that the springs are somewhat sagged and that installing new ones might give me that 5cm or so of lift required. I've read of people having issues with inferior after market springs, so I'm wondering where is a good place to purchase springs that aren't arched /too/ high. Really I just want the car back to its original height.

Would I be okay in purchasing the OE springs from Moss-Europe?

Thanks,

Thomas

thomas, we have people here that re curve your old springs, back to original. Check with the truck or mod guys, they should lead you in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply, would there be any benefits in using all new springs rather than old ones, or after bending is it all the same? Is there any particular things that would indicate new springs would be necessary rather than re-bending?

Thanks!

Thomas, If you have some one there that specializes in re-arching springs, you will more than likely get the proper height you desire. New springs are kind of a guessing game and from what I've heard, most seem to be arched a little more than needed. Once your springs are re-arched, their re-tempered and as good as new. Probably cheaper in the long run also, especially if you can hand deliver. JMHO. PJ

Hi Paul,

I called around some local places regarding re-arching/re-tempering and everyone is saying that it will be in the $400-$600 range! I've also worked out I can get new ones from Moss-Europe delivered for $250, which as you can see leaves me with a hard decision haha I don't much like the sound of the guessing game either :nonod:

Wow! That's a lot of money to have the springs re-arched. Been a while since I've had it done, but I know it wasn't near that price. Of course our prices differ from yours, but that's high in my book. I agree, that the new springs will be a lot better on the pocket book. Good luck. PJ

I suspect it is the tempering that costs. I had mine reached about 3 years ago cost $60

I would sell ya some used ones I have from a 72, and give you a great deal, its the shipping that would kill you. I just sent a titanium handlebar to Perth, and Fed Ex wanted $218.

Thanks for the offer, but yea, that shipping sounds nasty! For some reason shipping from Moss in the UK to Australia is quite reasonable, so I might order from them. I got a radiator shipped for $60GBP and it arrived in about four days which I was quite impressed with!
