Just took an alloy rim in with a completely separated sidewall from our son's car (looks like he picked up a nail right in the middle of the tread; the nail came out leading to reasonably rapid air loss and overheating of the sidewall, which failed. Lots of black dust inside the tire. He and the car got off the highway and got it changed with no damage) and the tire changer recommended an acid based aluminum primer as a first coat after he cleaned the corrosion off the rim where the bead contacts it, followed by a couple of light sprays of clear - Krylon industrial, I believe.
Corrosion along this area is a problem with alloys, leading to slow air leaks. Anyone got suggestions as to how minimize the corrosion on wheels being used on vehicles (steel and alloy) as well as those that are stacked flat and could get water pooling around the contact area? Also, what are suggestions for preventing corrosion on wire wheels - spokes etc.
