Gotta be the right tool to replace door handles, right?
Getting at those little pins....you know what I mean.
Springs behind panel? Easier if I left them off. Did
so for now, but I will go back cause I'm just that way.

OK, somewhere there is the easy way to do this. Has been covered a few times. Maybe it should be pinned somewhere.

Hello Twowrench,

yes there is a tool, its a flat steel bar, with a fork at one end, in the centre of the fork is a pin. The handle is cranked to give clearance for your hand (Sort of Z shape in profile) Just push the forked end between the escutcheon and the handle, locate the pin and align the tool so the centre pin in the tool lines up and push down, remembering to catch the pin as it drops. Replacing is the reverse process, you may need to feed the tool in from below, if that's the way the pin lines up.

I'm big on magnets. I got a dozen at the hardware, 1" x 2" by 3/8ths inch. I will stick them on the screwdriver, pliers or whatever to catch the parts, then scrap them off into a ziplock ith the associated parts from that job.

I've used a simple pair of needle nose pliers. It took 2 seconds. File the side going in when you re-install to a little bit of a point and it will line right up. To push it out use a finishing nail but watch the panel and stick some copy paper behind the handle for protection.

You guys are making a simple step way too complicated.

Same thing I do. It's pretty easy. Just mess with it for a minute or two and you should be able to get it in or out just fine.

ditch the springs behind the handles. It makes easy work next time you need to remove the handle pins. There is enough padding to keep the plastic ring covering the pins to stop them falling out.
