Spitfire Weber Carburetor Upgrade - 77 Spitfire

You'll see a bit of an increase in performance, most do this conversion for reliability reasons. Tons of Spits are running this setup.

I only know what I have seen on the triumph experience forum. You might want to ask over there on the spitfire forum. Nothing good has been said about where you are looking. Good Luck

For my carburetted TR7 I purchased a Euro spec manifold with SU carbs. I tried the Webers and had flat spots in the acceleration. The SU carbs are simple and might be more reliable than the webers.

Don't plan on just bolting them on and they work great. The flat spot off idle is caused by too large a choke. You will have to dial them in by purchasing at minimum a book on webers and a set of micro drill bits and plan on drilling out the jets. And an o2 meter. It can be done

I have the Weber DVG with a Pierce intake manifold. Runs great out of the box. A little grinding to get clearance for the exhaust and a little work getting the water connection for the manifold water heater but easy enough for a good wrench.
This is a much better setup than the original carb.

I had great luck with the application on my 1296 engine, the install was pretty simple, had to make some minor flange adjustments with a file for the manifold to fit.. I purchased the Weber with automatic choke and ran a power wire over to the choke that is activated by the ignition. Linkage on my car to the carb was a bit different than using a cable, I was able to use the foot pedal and lever assembly and add a linkage from the arm of the linkage up to the WEBER linkage (purchased a turn buckle linkage with swivels at my local hardware store). Slight modifications to the linkage and it all worked out pretty well.

Once you install you will want to set up a small pressure gauge and determine what your water pump is putting out for pressure. As I remember my pump was delivering 7 PSI, I purchased and installed a good in line fuel pressure regulator, made a bracket and mounted it on carb side of the engine.

I read many forums on the regulator subject, some said they did not have any issues, I did with the 7 PSI the carb would flood. Once the Reg was installed i was able to get a study idle at 700 rpm no problem. Throttle response is also very good with a good ignition, I put the electronic pick up in my distributor for helping with idle and performance as well.

Happy to say when I go out to start the car up, with good plugs in it.. It starts very well. Also idles down when stopping very well.

If you want reliability I would say go for it but do the pressure test or you will not be happy .
