waterflow itis

howdy,
for what its worth dept,
like many of us i have occasional cooling issues, recently gone to plan ''b''
problem, every year have taken radiator out for power back flush,
always a lot of iron scale present, once cleaned, cools great for
awhile[6-8 mo]
lately i've taken to fishing a magnet in the top rad tank through the cap port.
i am amazed how much iron scale is retrieved!!!
and there is an immediate improvement in flow-cooling

with respect 59er

The problem I see here is the engine block which is the primary source of rust scale never gets flushed out. It would seem even more beneficial if the entire system was back flushed.--Fwiw--Keoke

Re: waterflow itis

A solution strong in white vinegar does a nice job of removing scale. I put it to the test a few years ago, after my car had been laid up since the last century.

Fill up the system and run the engine to operating temperature. I believe I cruised around the neighborhood, versus just letting it idle in the garage.

Drain and flush with fresh water, before filling with the elixir of your choice.

My dad always used that to clean the corrosion away from the battery posts.
