I was too young to truly appreciate this at the time but as a F1 fan I wish we could see this kind of dueling today. Thank god for Youtube.com otherwise I'd of never seen this.

Villeneuve vs Arnoux 1979

All of that action and they where only fighting for second place.

Ahhh! Thanks for bringing back the "glory days" that was coool! I was at the Glen for that. Great memories!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I missed the Glen that year (the LAST F-1 there, IIRC) 'cause some blue-hair pranged into my GTV as we were leaving... hit me a BLOCK from the house!

GGRRRRR......

Bret, you just made me feel REALLY old...........I saw this race on the BBC, and at the time I was on the police force with three years' service behind me! Now, where's me Geritol?
Doh! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif Sorry, Steve,

Not saying I was in diapers or anything like that. In fact I'll be 48 in a few days and was just commenting on the fact that I was only 20 years old at the time and don’t think I would have appreciated Formula One even if I had seen the race.

Lets see 1979, where was I? Well, I was in my second year in the Marine Corps at the time and depending on the time of year I was either stationed in North Carolina at MCAS New River or I might have been at sea on an LPH (Helo/Assault Carrier) in the middle of the Atlantic or the Mediterranean. So chances are I’d of never gotten to see the race even if I of wanted to.

I just find it really cool that you can find stuff like this on the web now.

So long as we are talking F1, the Glen and Geritol, I thought I would post some of my old Glen photos from the '67 GP.

Mike, wonderful stuff! Very atmospheric, and I loved the shots of Brabham and Clark.

I was big into F1 at the time (and rallying, of course) as you might expect in the UK.........Bret you had me worried.....here is a Marine vet telling us that he was too young to take much interest in F1, so I was concerned. Point taken /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I was a fortunate college kid at the time whos dad got a couple of press passes for me. I was able to roam the track freely back then with the press credentials and even was allowed to venture out onto the run-off areas to take pictures (safety concerns not being what they are today...hence the great camera angle for that shot of the start, the grid and the pit shots) It was the thrill of a lifetime to actually meet the legends and actaully have a word or two with them!
The atmosphere of the pictures has been added by the passage of time. I cherish the prints as unfortunately over the years many, but not all of the negatives have survived!

Very nice, Mike. I too like the Clark and Black Jack shots.

Yeah, years ago I always thought I should have sent them to a magazine or something, but I never did, just kept them in the memory album! One of my favorites though is the home-made bleacher...THAT just brings back old memories of the Glen, the bog and the sacrifices to it, the burned loos, the bitter cold of a GP in Oct.!!
