TR2/3/3A Valve gaps...fast road cam...TR3

After rebuilding the 3 engine we set the intake and exhaust gap settings at .010". With an upgraded cam what should the ideal range be.....014 or .016? Anyone upgrade their cam and can offer advice? Karl

I used the gap recommended by the grinder for that particular grind cam. It was listed on the grinder's website.

Do you know who ground the cam and what the grind is? Iskendarian lists the gap on their website, maybe other grinders do as well.

I sold that car, but I still use that photo for my avatar.

It has an Iskendarian "666" cam. I disremember what the valve gap was. It wasn't the same as the stock gap, though.

My cam on the old race TR4, (should be the same as your TR3) was grind # an66 with a cam lift of 298 and valve lift of 448, the valve lash (setting) was .018 hot, don"t have a cold but would go with .020 to start until it warms up. Ran 2 inch SU.s off a Volvo and would go like the devil after 2000 RPM,s

My TR4A TT fast road cam (278 duration) is .013" intake and exhaust.

You really need to check with you cam profiler to be sure what's right for your cam.

What intake manifold did you use when you ran the 2" SU's? I bought a TR4 intake manifold on Ebay that had the ports widened to take 2" and toyed with the idea of putting 2" on. Do you remember what Volvo's used them? I've heard it said that the engine would be "over carbueurated " with 2" SU's and that the 1 & 1/2" were adequate? Any issues with running them?
