Up-date on the New Healey

Re: Update on the New Healey

Nice sketch...

Just as well it’s going to be a (very) limited production item. I think the car will have limited appeal beyond the tiny cult of rabid Healey enthusiasts, after which it will be competing with the likes of BMW, Porsche, and others for the hearts and minds (and wallets) of consumers. Still, the prospect of a new Healey is exciting.

Re: Update on the New Healey

Very Exciting!!!

I also found it interesting that the Barret Jackson Healey went to the daughter of the owner of the Discovery channel.

Re: Update on the New Healey

Sorry .. fail to see the resemblance, c'ept for the ralley scoop/duo tone line ... perhaps it's more of a Aston-Healey or Jagley but this concept sketch/view does not communicate the proportions, lines, personality or essence of a Healey sports car. I know that this is just a teaser sketch but not looking too promising at this point.

Cheers,
John

Re: Update on the New Healey

Oh my god a new Sprite, cheer. Tell em that it must be a happy car and fun to drive. Coupes not allowed. Oh please make it remissent of the Bugeye. In my mind the rest are really MGs.

I would bet they could get lots and lots of input from the Sprite community if they cared. Just like they could have from the big Healey community if they cared.

Re: Update on the New Healey

Thanks for the "Scoop" Reid. I'll pass it on to other Healeyphiles in the St Louis area. Any idea of the cost?
Speaking of "new Healey's" just got the word off the street that an area here in St Louis will be the staging point for a Belgian conglomerate buying up "barn finds" Austin Healey's. Their first shipment consists of 10 Healey's and is already being brought here. So if anyone is searching for a "resto" project you better act quick. Oh, the Belgians are going to restore all of them and resell back to USA. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

Re: Update on the New Healey

Reid,

Don't mean to edit the editor but is this what you meant to say .. (my edit in parentheses)

The first model that HSC anticipates producing is (not) a coupe, but a convertible, a smaller car in the spirit of the Sprite, and a hi-performance model are also under consideration and development.

Cheers,
John

Hmmm... what I tried to indicate was that the first car they plan to produce IS a coupe. Let me state it like this and see if it isn't more clear:

"The first model that HSC anticipates producing is a coupe. Other designs under consideration and development are a convertible, a smaller car in the spirit of the Sprite, and a hi-performance model."

Well, ultimately it is the writer's responsibility to write what he wants to communicate in a way that the reader gets it right. Thanks for helping me get my writing grade up from a C- to a B or so. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

500 in the first year doesn't sound bad - remember that Healey (pre Austin) only made about 1200 cars in 8 years (150 a year), Morgan make about 500 a year (this may have gone up in recent years?), Noble 400 a year.....

Re: Update on the New Healey

guys,it looks very aston martinish to me,thats not to say its bad, trying to judge its scale by the size of the tires, mirror, etc.im afraid well find it to be perhaps slightly larger then a t.v.r (vixen?)weres the money shot-the nose? told the misses i was sending in my deposit, thank god i build a realy nice shed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Update on the New Healey

I checked out the site...they sound serious about this project. Maybe I'm just a cynical New Yorker, but I would like to know what is meant by "Healey 3000 DNA"? What is the essence of Healey that can be suddenly infused into a new car bearing the name of a car that has been extinct for nearly 40 years? Is it the lines, or the in-line six under the hood, the exhaust note, or something less tangible? Unlike Ferrari or Lotus, both of which have a clearly defined company ethos that can be recognized in their ever changing products over the years (it goes deeper than styling cues), where is the bloodline of the Healey? I hope I'm wrong, and those good folks somehow pull this thing off...but coming up with a car that is worthy of the Healey name is a very steep hill to climb...even if it has the blessings of someone named Healey.

Hey here’s a crazy thought...maybe the Healey went extinct because it had to. It was such a “perfect” concept, so right for a moment in time that it could not possibly evolve...maybe there was just no place for it to go?

Re: Update on the New Healey

I'm still giving odds that this will never come to be, or if it does it will coincide with the merger of AHCA and AHCUSA.

Re: Update on the New Healey

Michael - Does Vegas have a line on which will come first? the merger of the two clubs or the new Healey?

Why?

I know that there have been a number of stories in the press over the last few years about new Healeys, but they have only been press speculation, this one is information from a company who have spend $1.6m to buy HAC and say they are going to build cars, which is quite a different thing.
