Just got my bill for 6 months insurance. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was only $178. It's not full coverage but I'm legal.

Wow. I pay about 1200 a year for insurance on all my cars but I only have full covereage on the toyota 'cause it's so purdee (and I still owe about $3000 on it). Everything else is just liability only.

eh... mine would prolly be cheaper if I didn't have two things working against me.... 1) I'm a single male, and 2) I live in LA...

Mine went down when I turned 18, went down when I turned 21, went down again when I turned 25, but went up (not much) when I turned 30 years old...

I went to the office and asked why it went up? They said I entered the age bracket where men have more accidents in their cars. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif WTH???? I've never had an accident or a claim of any type. But I've been with the same company so long, not even progressive can beat the rates I pay.

I wonder how much Tony pay's for insurance on all his cars? And I bet tag time is as bad or worse than tax time....

Wait tag time and tax time is almost the same - february is a bad month for you isn't it tony?

same here Kenny... insurance went down at the same times for me... and went back up at the same time too.... although, I'm still sure my insurance would be lower if I weren't single and didn't live in LA...

Mine didn't change (much - might have gone up a couple dollars a month) when I got married. Adding a driver and all - but we added her car too, so it wen't up some anyway.

I'm gonna have to talk to the insurance agent though in about 5 more years (glad the house will be paid for by then), when Amanda gets old enough for her learners permit. I hear that's a big jump.

USAA insurance...insurance isn't the hard part - I hate license plate day!

I'm up to about $225 or so for tag day with only 4 cars. I'd have to take out a loan every year if I had all yours to tag. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I pick which ones I plan on driving the most & tag them...the back row doesn't get tagged - that's 7 cars

I have full agreed value coverage on 3 old cars for $170 a year. My plates cost ZERO a year. But I have antique coverage and collector plates. Of course I have other cars and the collector insurance does have limits. So if your car is old enough to qualify, you can save a lot of money.

Have a good day

Alabama doesn't cut any slack for antique cars - plates cost & have to be renewed every year....what's appropriate in one state doesn't work in another.

I don't have a garage to keep the cars in... and that's usually a big sticking point with the classic car insurance guys. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I drive mine all the time too, but usually less than 3000 miles per year - We use the newer cars for travel.

I'm telling you, Kenny - one of those little $150 tent garages from Walmart works wonders - or is it Sam's Club?

I have my TVR insured through a Classic Car Insurance Company and it only costs me $165/year. In Virginia, I have it on Antique Tags which you pay for one time and they are permanent.

I recall when I first signed up they asked me to send photos of the car as well as the garaged it was housed in. There are a number of classic car insurance companies out there and they may all vary a bit as far as their requirements. I have mine through Hagerty but there are many others out there. It might be worth checking into.

Rick,
I believe that all the classic car insurers require that the car be garaged. Just about all of them have mileage limits (2000-2500) per year. I have Condon & Skelly (Met Life) and pay about $130 per year for my 1974 TVR with an agreed to value of $15,000. They also state that "it is expected that this vehicle will not be driven to work" and that every licensed driver in the house has another registered vehicle. For the most part the plans are easy to live with.

I have had classic car insurance for several years and let it laps last year, when my lbc clutch went and it was time to downsize. They asked for place of storage, type of building (stone or wood)etc. Here tag once and never inspect. Renew tag for free once every five years.

Also, don't get any ideas, because I had them show up unannounced to inspect a vehicle (Condon & Skelly was the carrier at that time).
