Trip to London

Hi,
Anyone out there live in or know London? My wife and I are going there this September and I would like some advice on getting around. We are taking a side trip to Ireland leaving from Stansted airport and are looking for the closest place to stay by Liverpool Street where we will catch the Stansted Express. Also, if there are good places to buy Healey memorabilia.
Thanks,
Chuck

The Goodwood Festival is in early September and promises to be great fun with loads of vintage cars. Google it for more info.

Thanks for the info. I would enjoy it but, with only 3 days in London, I don't think I could sell my wife on a car show.

It's a shame you won't be able to take Goodwood in, Chuck, as it isn't just a car show. It is pretty much the British equivalent of our Monterey Historic Races.
Speed usually televises a portion of it here in the States.

Chuck:

London is a real easy city to compute in...the have an outstanding "under ground" system that virtually takes you all over town...just about everywhere...buy a weekly pass...it's the best deal...that way you don't have to buy tickets each time you use the system..

Also...I'd recommend the city tour using the double-decker bus system...gives you an overview of the city...you can stop and get off and back on...when you need...

Last...I found the poeple of London extremely friendly and helpful...just in case they get lost...

Last...they speak English...however it has a bit of an accent to it...just kidding...it's a great city...hope you have fun there...

If you like they have "day-tours" that take you out to the Cotswolds, Cliffs of Dover, Stratford on Avon (Willy Shakespeares home town)and places like Stonehenge...

Too much to see...enjoy... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

Three days in London. Shouldn't one of those be yours? Goodwood would be a great place to spend it. IMHO.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif I don't really mean to cause trouble, sometimes, it just happens.

One day for Goodwood isn't enough considering travel time, especially if you're using public transportation. You can get a train to Chichester but then would need a bus or taxi out to Goodwood.

Since your time is so limited, I'd suggest heading for the St Martin's Court / Charing Cross area (in London) where many of the larger book stores are. One great one is:

www.motorbooks.co.uk

They are likely to have books you haven't seen elsewhere. If you go a bit overboard buying books they'll pack them and ship them home for you.

Foyles is huge place with a large car section, and there's at least one other but the name escapes me.

Thanks to all for the advice. My main concern was making a 12:30 pm flight from Stansted airport. If we have too many changes to make using the tubes to get to Liverpool street to catch the Stansted Express (45 min ride to airport), it would make for an very early morning start. That's why I was looking for good accomdations close to Liverpool Street.
