TR6 TR6 dash help

It's been a while since I have posted - it's good to be back. I need some help/information. First, can someone tell me the thickness of the TR6 dash without the finish? Was the dash thickness the same for all years? When the glove boxes were cut, what tool was or can be used? With tight space around the glove box, there is little room for error. I practiced on a spare piece of veneer with a razor blade but wasn't very happy with the results. Any thoughts or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Kevin,

I think the dash veneer used was in the neighborhood
of 1/32" thickness. It might even have been 1/64".
In any event, paper thin.

I had a solid wood dash made but the concept is the
same for the glove box. We started with the box hinges
cut outs and then used a fine blade scroll saw to cut
the outline.

Yes, little room for error. A slow steady hand is the key.

Also have mine apart. Does anyone know if the back of the cubby door has a different finish on it. Mine looked and acted as if it is more of a plastic type finish on the veneer.

Assuming you want the thickness of the wood dash fascia, I don't know if the thickness for all years is the same.
I have a '74 TR6. The overall thickness of mine is
3/8 inch thick. There is a bevel cut from the face of the
fascia going toward the back of the fascia that I believe
to be at about 45 degrees. In other words, looking down
at the face of the board as if you were flying over it, at 12:00 o'clock high you would think the edges of the top, bottom and sides are going straight down at 90 degrees; but as you fly over the board and looking back at any one of the edges, you can see it is actually slanting back at 45 degrees.

The glovebox is constructed out of cardboard type material on my car. Somebody on the forum talked about having made one out of a sheet metal material. Can we buy these from one of our suppliers?

If you need a picture, send me a PM.

Ah I forgot!! My bad, sorry.

DPO Pedro had the car before me.
He probably removed and sold the backside
veneer on E-bay.

I do believe the finish on the back of the glovebox
door is a different finish than on the front. It is on
my '74 TR6, anyway. I just do not know if a previous
owner might have changed the face's finish; but I doubt
that to be the case. The finish was that somewhat
golden brown that I think happens to the original after
years of being in the sun. The glovebox inner face is different and my hunch is that it is one of these
wood finishes that is actually paper with glue that you
would stick on (popular on inexpensive screw-together type
furnitures) or it could be a very, very thin veneer.

From what you describe as being plastic on yours, my guess is that it is glue-down paper wood faux or something like that.

If I can get the time, I'll post some pictures.
