TR2/3/3A TR3A side screen fitting

I am fitting new Dzus side screens to my 3A. Somewhere online I found a How-to guide for fitting but I can't find it now that I need it. Anybody seen such a guide that can provide the link please?

Also a question about the Dzus attachment. Do I need to drill a hole in the center of the door panel where the Dzus fittings fit into the door brackets? They seem too long without a hole. Does the hole also go into the ash?

I had to drill a larger holes in the new panels I installed, the wood in the door already had a large hole (maybe a quarter inch deep) set into it.

This may be a bit of trial and error so you will probably want do the initial round of trial fittings without the panels in place. In my case there were several sets of holes where the brackets had been attached over the years so I had to mount the brackets, try the curtains, move the brackets... etc.

I've never seen a how-to guide but the key thing I think you're looking for is that the lip on the leading edge of the side curtain engages the groove in the windscreen stanchion. A good fit there keeps the curtain from pulling out at speed.

Let me know if you want me to measure the exact location of my brackets though this would only serve as a possible starting point due to variations in TRs and curtains.

I've done several of these on both the wood framed doors and on the later all steel doors.
a few dry runs without any holes drilled yet is a very good idea.
One of my tricks was to attach both of the plates to the "legs" of the sidescreens and fit the screens to the car with the top up. then use something ,chalk, paint, marker, to mark the screw holes
This method will reqiure some help, someone needs to hold the screen in place while the other marks the holes but it will get the plates set to the right spots the first time.

Hi Peter I would just like to add one thing too muddy the water. If you are going to use a factory hard top it has been my experience that the hard top sets lower than the soft. So set the side curtains to the hard top if you are going to use one. The hard tops are much less forgiving when it comes to side curtain installation. The window hole is kinda tight on the hard top and unless done just so, the doors will not close because the window needs to go into the hardtop recess. I use a hard top in the winter around here because they seal well and the recess for the windows really helps with the rain and cold.

Good point that I almost missed. We do have a hardtop that needs restoring but will eventually get it on the car. Thanks.
