I'm getting close the point where I can separate the tub from the frame on my '56. Does anyone happen to know roughly the weight of the tub with doors, fenders, trunk and hood lids removed?
thanks
I don't know what the actual weight is, but it only took myself and two other guys to lift mine off of the frame with everything removed (doors, trunk lid, hood, seats, dash, gas tank). I think two really strong guys could probably handle it.
jwolff,my tub is off the body,no doors, fenders or hoods, gas tank etc.on a $120 Tractor supply 4 wheel garden cart that I use to roll it ouside .
I estimate about 250-300lbs.
Tom
I used angle iron between the hinge and latch mounting points and an engine hoist to lift the body as I was working alone. I agree, the tub itself is not very heavy.
Yes I have welded a bracing structure to keep things from collapsing. I removed the steering column last night (this was a lot easier than I had feared) and might remove the tub this Sunday instead of the following weekend. Jim, thanks for offering to help...I'll send you an email shortly.
Hi Mike, I just checked out your photos. These gave me some great ideas as to where to attach my engine hoist to help support things. Love the Cotswold blue paint by the way... is your car finished yet? Would love to see more photos.
thanks again
It's looking like this Sunday at 1pm will be the best time for me, but could do it earlier if needed. Let me know if either of you can make it... if not that is fine as I can likely gather a few of my neighbors to give me a hand.
thanks!
I braced the door openings with some angle iron, and also welded a brace across the middle with a hole drilled so I could lift the tub on and off the frame with my engine hoist. Since I only have a one and a half car garage, I could take the tub off the frame, wheel it out in the driveway, and work on the frame and suspension stuff.
Edit: BTW, where the cross brace is located in the pic resulted in the tub being perfectly balanced front to rear.

Thanks. I am very happy with the colour. No, not finished yet. I'm still block sanding the primer, but will update the VTO site when I make some more progress. Cheers, Mike
