TR2/3/3A TR3/TR3A bumper changeover?

Anyone know when Triumph changed the bumper type? Must have been somewhere before 59? and with the the early "shoebox" grill?

Karl, as per the Judging manual "Front bumper, over-riders and support springs(support brackets). TR2 & TR3 bumpers and overriders are different from the TR3A &TR3B. They are not interchangable. Rear bumpers are the same for all models"
MOSS MOTORS has a very definitive listing of commission numbers and model numbers on page 3 of their catalog.

As far as I know, when the TR3A (wide mouth) showed up. Post TS22013 in Aug of '57.

The later front bumper goes with the "wide mouth" front apron; as the bumper mounts go through the apron. The early front bumper has totally different mounts, that duck under the apron and attach directly to the frame. The later apron also extends down a bit farther in that area, so the early mounts won't fit with the later apron.

Also causes a problem with the aftermarket (ADDCO) sway bar, as it mounts to the later bumper mounts.

Hi Karl,

The earlier TR3 Small Mouth Bumper Bar is "Squared-Off" on the ends vs. a TR3A Wide Mouth that is more "Pointed".

I have "TS21162L" which is a late `57TR3 Small Mouth & the "Bumper Brackets" do mount to the Chassis & exit from "Under the Front Apron".

They are not interchangeable as mentioned in a few previous posts.
