TR2/3/3A TR3 Rear wheel brake cylinders

TR3 Rear brake questions.
My car will be a easy driver - no racing.

I have 10 inch drums with 2 1/4 inch wide shoes and the brake cylinders were 5/8 bore with slotted piston tops. Mine are hopelessly corroded and need to be replaced. It appears that the 5/8 bore is NLA.
Will the rear lock up too easily if I go to the 3/4 bore cylinders? Or do I have no choice? Is my only option to find a balance valve? Who is the best source for the new cylinders?

Also - The brake shoes were ruined by grease from the hub. I have the axle assemblies all taken apart to replace the seals and bearings. Who is the best source for new shoes?

As always I look forward to any advice or ideas and experiences that any of you have. Thanks

You can have your existing wheel cylinders overbored and fitted with either brass or stainless steel inserts in the original 5/8" diameter.
White Post Restorations does a good job of this.
You could also contact Peter at:

https://www.nosimport.com/

He may have some good ideas.

I would imagine just about any of the normal vendors can supply quality shoes.

I had my 10" rear brake linings re-done in 1990 when I was finishing my restoration. They were bonded onto the original shoes by a local clutch and brake service shop. They have done fine for the 17 years since then and 94,000 miles.

10" shoes are scarce and expensive, last I knew. But they can be relined by anyone who does such work. You might contact Ted Schumacher, who can reline them with Kevlar linings.

Andy's right!!! Be very careful who you send or give your shoes to. One of the first mistakes I made was to assume they were easily available. I had original shoes with the original striping which I gave to a local vendor as a core. I could have cleaned them up but they were covered in oil and brake fluid and I though this would be for the best. Was I wrong! The guy said no problem come back in a week and I'll have them... Well six months later he gave me some shoes back which didn't even look close to the ones I gave him. They did fit and I do still use them but they look like they came out of a Toyota. Moss lists the 10 inch rear shoes but they are $$$ expensive.

Any size cylinder can be used to replace the 5/8ths original as long as they are replaced as a pair . Mine had 3/4 as a replacement to the original but I replaced them back to the 5/8ths.

Also see Apple Hydraulics and Joe Curto in New York for cylinder resleeving.

Many shops that reline class 8 truck brakes can do you 10" shoes...Praefke Brake in Milwaukee has done mine in the past.

The shop I was working at whae I did TS816 ordered the 10" shoes from Moss. They were NOS. The final inspecton date on the box was 1958, they were packed in the wax paper, and looked like a lumpy fiber or rope bonded to the backing plates.
You're probably far better off having a good brake relining shop do your set.
I'm still on the fence of what I'm doing on TS5012. I'd like to keep it original, but I have most of the stuff to do a complete brake upgrade, so I may wind up with a later TR3 axle.
Thanks guys for the links on wheel cyl re-sleevers. I need to get the Jag done.

Over the years we've had some fairly exotic shoes relined at a local truck brake/clutch house. All were done correctly and at great pricing compared to hunting down crossover bits to order. Case in point: mid-fifties Nasty Martin DB2/4 drophead. Shoes at all four corners and made of Unobtainium. IIRC, $100 did the deed.
