There is an interesting TR3 for sale on eBay at the moment from a dealer whose name has been mentioned before on this forum.
It is currently a '57 small mouth car and has the correct larger commission plate on the bulkhead.
In August this year this same car was for sale in San Fransisco on eBay. It was registered as a '59 car and had commission number TS53259L on a smaller commission plate. The car intrigued me and certainly had all of the characteristics of a '57 car that had a later commission plate riveted on!
Our dealer friend in Florida has decided to sort things out and has given it a "clean '57 title" and commission plate. He has also re-sprayed the car in black and given it a re-trim.
The poor old car is therefore on its third identity!
Not sure how legal that is. It would be interesting to have a look at the car and see how close the engine number is to the commission number.
