TR2/3/3A TR3 Fuel Tanks

I have a 1960 parts car with a good fuel tank and am needing a tank for a 1958. I'm not really concerned about staying original and was wondering if the later tank will work in an early car? Any help would be appreciated.

I think there was a change in the tanks when the sloped shelf behind the seats changed to a straight shelf. I know the 60 is straight, but don't know what your '58 has.

Should work OK. The fuel outlet on a 58 was in the middle of the tank, while the outlet for the 1960 may have been on the driver side. Physical dimensions were the same however.

You'll definitely have to make some changes, as the bottom contour changed as well as the outlet location (and capacity). But I think it should be do-able. Don't forget though, a full tank weighs close to 100 pounds and needs to be mounted accordingly. You don't want it sliding around in a hard corner.

My post 60k car came with a nice earlier tank.The oulets are different as mentioned,you need driver side outlet,This wasnt a deal breaker for me,I would have drilled a new hole in the floor.However the tank would not fit,The most obvious if I remember correctly was the fuel inlet could not be lined up with hole in body.I got a new tank from Jorge on ebay,fit perfect,and then found that my filler cap assembly didn't work and I needed the matching push on filler cap.The inlet hole sizes are different. The shape of the tank, most importantly, the bottom of the tank is different between the old (sloped) and new (square) tanks. Since I had a *free* new style, I was able to modify the trunk to allow it to work in my old style car. Since I was welding a very large patch under the tank, I found the swap to be not very difficult -but I did have to make stands, and add a hole for the line.
