TR2/3/3A TR3 Control Head Help

Aloha All,

I was taking apart a spare control head to clean up the accumulation of about 40 years of dirt, grime and the remains of insects calling it home.
I was sketching each layer as I took it apart. Thing were going well, until the the part I was clean sprung apart, with small springs, brass contacters and metal bits shooting out. Does anyone have an exploded diagram of the control head or a link to a website with a tech article that can help me reassemble the control head?

Safety Fast,
Dave

Mahalo Dave, I have attempted to the best of my skills to re-do these varmits before. In lue of some new critical bits, I am of the opinion that its **** near impossible to make a lasting repair of these old girls. I heartly recomend the purchase of the AM head offered by TRF. It does something the original never did and that is to have all 3 functions work on demand!!!

The best source I have seen for rebuilding these is a video tape -- I think from a VTR tech session. If you have all the bits then it can be put back together -- tricky but not difficult.

I am traveling for a couple of weeks but if you're still stuck come the end of May drop me a pmail and I'll see what we can work out to get the tape to you: ahwahnee-at-cybertrails-dot-com.

Thank you Mad Dog and George, I did a goggle search and found a tech article here, https://www.tr-register.com.au/Files/technical.htm
It describes disassembly, but stops at reassembly.
I should have done the search before I statred to take it apart. As the article describes, once certain screws are removed, it springs apart and small bits fly about. I think I found all the bits and have figured out were the go. The more daunting part is assembly. If I'm successful, I may write my own article. If all else fails, I can get the TRF offerring.

Well, it is a part for a British car. Just like the instructions in any factory repair manual, 'Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly'.

You gotta remember that the above mentioned tech article is written by a bunch of Aussies, thus everthing will be upside down and backwards. That is the way a dentist works anyways. I redid the control head on my 3 many year ago and swore I would never do it again. If TRF has one, buy it!

Webb: The controll head is the assembly in the center of the steering wheel of a TR2-3A. Horn / signal light assembly. Good question! You might see some at your summer job.

Well, I managed to sucessfully reassemble the thing, and it is working. You are all correct in that it is not easy. Alot of small pieces, pushed together under spring tension or compression. I did it using a large box to contain the work, the few times it flew apart it was easier finding the pieces. Dr. Bill, being used to working in small areas would seem to be most qualified for this type of repair. Thanks for the help.

Safety Fast,
Dave
